The 63rd Huon Show will be held at Ranelagh on Saturday 14 November. Plans are well in hand to provide a variety of stock sections, commercial exhibitors and entertainment. The Official Guest at this year’s Show will be Stuart Cordwell – previously from the Huon and now the ‘right-hand man’ at Bridgewater High School Farm. Stuart, together with the Farm School, have been long time supporters of not only the Huon Show but other Shows around the State. Entries are being received in all stock sections with Horse entries closing on 6 November. Entries for horses will NOT be received on Show Day. Pre-Show entry must be made. Judges from across the State and the Mainland have been engaged to judge the various sections. The following judges will officiate: Equestrian Section: Mrs Ray Norton (NSW), Mrs Kay Keen (Vic), Mrs Di Shorland (Tas), Miss Erin Duggan (Tas), Mrs S. Clark (Tas.) Mrs L Readett (Tas) Beef Cattle: Mr. Neville Fenton (Tas) Fat Cattle: Mr. Peter Collins (Tas) Dairy Cattle: Rachel Millhouse Stud Sheep/Lambs: Mr. Chris. Badcock (Tas) Alpacas: Mr Bill Robbins (NSW) Poultry: Mr. David Brown (Tas) Dairy Goats: Mrs. Chris. Baker (Vic) Cavies: Ms Karen Nicholls (NSW) The Alpaca judge, Bill Robbins established Traron Alpaca Stud in Holbrook NSW with the purchase of 3 pregnant females in 1989; today he and his wife and daughter run approximately 400 alpacas, both Huacaya and Suri and of all colours. He has judged every major show in Australia, including being the only Australian to judge the National Show three times. Bill has judged in the United States, Canada and New Zealand and is also an I.A.J.S (International Alpaca Judges School) of Peru accredited international judge. An area of concern has been the condition of the Arena. Following the heavy rain received September/October the arena has become water-logged. It is hoped that by Show day it will have dried out sufficiently for the area to be used. Horse events will be conducted, as in 2008 in the area adjacent to the Showground. The parking area has responded to the recent fine days and will be suitable for parking on Show day. A full programme of entertainment has been arranged. Features this year will include performances by the RAN Rock Band. This feature should be a highlight for all. Two performances will be given. One at 11.00 a.m. and one at 12.30 pm. Following their successful display in 2008, the Light Horse Brigade will return for a repeat performance. An added feature to the equestrian programme will be Carriage Classes. These classes involves two or four wheeled carriages and open to all horses and ponies. Together with classes for light horse or pony in carriage and heavy horse or pony in carriage. Music will be provided by Sundown and Guilders Workshop. Making a return will be the Tribal Dancing group. This colourful troupe of dancers are sure to entertain. Entertainment for children will be provided by Make Believe, Smiff Puppets and roving artists. The Dog High Jump is always an attraction and the Kingborough-Huon Rural Youth Club will be looking for entries for this event as well as animals for the Animal Nursery. Other attractions will include vintage machinery, boat building, chain-saw carving and the usual carnival rides and showbags. The popular ‘Ute Muster’ will also be held. A good response has been received for commercial ground space with a number of exhibitors exhibiting at the Huon Show for the first time. The Show is a truly ‘Agricultural Show’ and it is pleasing to still receive support from agricultural based businesses. Sections for Huon Show Ambassador (17 – 25 years) with entrants registering by 11.00 a.m. and for Junior sections (Registering between 11.00 a.m. – 12.00 noon as follows will be held: Huon Teen – 13-16 years, Huon Junior – 8 – 12 years Huon Junior - 4 – 7 years Huon Tiny Tot – 18 mths to 3 years. The Show Society Committee is always looking for an ‘extra pair of hands’ to assist on Show day so if you would like to be involved in this great community event, please do not hesitate to get in touch with a Committee person. Full contact details are available from the Society’s web site – This web site has been developed this year and hopefully, will give the public some idea of the scope of the Show Society.
